Old clay, big trees

One estate, one era of pipe

Deep, skinny blocks came with the Park Forest Estate, cut up between 1950 and 1980, and the drains laid in that era were vitrified clay.

Roots find the cracks

Clay pipe cracks where the lengths join as it gets older, and the established gardens backing bushland give tree roots an easy way in. In a 1950s weatherboard, roots are a likely cause of a slow drain, so the drain gets filmed before anyone guesses.

Hot water on borrowed time

Many first-generation units in the post-war housing are due for a changeover, and when one that old quits, it quits without warning.

How quotes work here

So the figure you sign off on is the figure you pay.

"Not only all of that but the job came in right on quote." Steve

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

What moves the figure before we name it:

  • Access A line under a raised floor or behind a retaining wall costs more to get at than an open laundry floor waste.
  • Pipe material Clay, galvanised, PVC, polybutylene and copper each need a different approach, and some need the jetter rather than the eel.
  • Parts A changeover with a new valve set costs more than a repair that reuses them.
  • After-hours Evening and weekend bookings cost more, and you hear the difference before you commit.

When we are not the right call: a switchboard fault is an electrician's job, and we will point you to one instead.

Four steps after you ring

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 1093 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    The fix, then the proof

Drains get a camera check after clearing so you see the line running clean, and we tidy the workspace before we go.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Rain, slope and the catchment

Steep ground, fast water

The blocks here roll, and long driveways cut into the hillside push stormwater toward the low-side drains in a downpour. Area figures put average rainfall at 1128 millimetres a year, so those lines earn their keep.

The creek sets the rules

The suburb drains to Styx Creek, and council's 2023 flood study earmarked Kimbarra Close, Gregory Parade and Wallace Street for further investigation. If the yard floods every time a storm rolls through, the answer is usually drainage design, not a plumbing mystery.

Things worth knowing first

Can you get a plumber to Kotara after hours?

Yes. We are available 24/7, and evening and weekend jobs cost more, which you hear before anything is booked. Ring the number any time and you will speak to someone who can arrange a plumber, not an answering machine that promises a callback.

What makes a drain job more expensive?

Three things move the figure: how hard the access is, what the pipes are made of, and whether the blockage needs a camera run before it can be cleared properly. The whole figure is agreed with you up front, so the invoice holds no surprises.

Do you work on post-war houses with old clay drains?

Yes, that is most of the suburb. Clay runs under most of the mid-century houses, it splits as it ages, and roots follow the cracks, so the camera and the jetter come as standard and the fix is quoted off what the footage shows.

Which hot water systems do you install?

Electric storage, instant electric, gas storage, continuous-flow gas, heat pump and solar. The right choice depends on your gas connection, your roof, and how many people are in the house, and we talk through the options before quoting the changeover.

Is gas fitting a separate licence?

Yes. Gas work needs a licensed gas fitter, and ours are licensed for both plumbing and gas, so the same tradesman handles jobs that cross both, like a continuous-flow unit that needs a new water line and a new gas line.

Do you cover the streets near the railway station?

Yes, the whole suburb plus New Lambton, Adamstown, Adamstown Heights, Kotara South and Garden Suburb, all on the same terms: a fixed figure ahead of the work and the same warranty afterwards.
